Through the Ages – Making up my Mind about my Makeup 4

Hey guys, you’re going to have to bear with me for a while. I’ll probably babble on for a while but then i’ll get to the point in the end, eventually, I hope!

As strange as it sounds, I hate wearing makeup!!!  Hmm  ok, maybe that’s a little bit too strong perhaps I should say, I HATE seeing colour on my face.

You can laugh all you like or scratch your head, but as the old saying goes, a mechanic’s car is always run down and a builders home is always like a construction site.   You’ll find that sometimes, alot of makeup artists or hairdressers actually can’t be bothered with themselves half the time.

But, when I first discovered makeup, it was a beautiful treasure trove, calling out to me, it wanted to caress my face, embrace me, it demanded my attention and wanted me to give myself without reservation to our relationship.

If you’ve ever worked in the cosmetics industry, working in a store for any of the major brands you’ll know that in order to even get your foot through the door, you have to look the part. You sell yourself.  (Get your mind out of the gutters) – Your face is your main canvas, your style and creativity are your walking talking portfolio.   Shoppers make a beeline for someone who’s makeup they like. It’s as simple as that. If they see someone who’s makeup looks like something they’d like themselves, then they’re likely to come straight over to you and avoid anyone who’s makeup isn’t quite what they’re looking for.  Some  want an artist who has glamorous makeup and others want an artist who’s makeup is quite subdued yet perfectly applied. It all comes down to personal choice.

Spa Pedicures – Are they really worth it? 1

Have you ever wondered what the difference is between a Spa Pedicure or a normal Pedicure? I’ll tell you what, it’s a lot more than just  a professional toenail job.

A Spa Pedicure is a procedure which cleans and removes the dead skin cells from the feet and toenails. It helps prevent nail diseases. The pedicure is also accompanied by a foot massage that rejuvenates the skin as well as relaxing the muscles. But what really sets it apart is the fact that it’ll be a longer service, with more steps — an aromatic exfoliating scrub, hydrating mask, hot towel wrap, jelly pedicures and paraffin dips are also on the menu at alot of places and this are the things that’ll make the spa pedicure last longer and feel more luxurious. If you’re more adventurous, you can invest in a fish pedicures (where you dip your feet into a tank full of tiny fish which nibble away at the hard skin on your feet!  But in general, they will help to remove excess dead hard skin on the soles of your feet but they will not use a blade to scrap this off.  This technique is very dangerous and can cause further problems to the area. the pedicure blades were invented for chiropodists who are trained feet doctors and not for general beauty purposes. Rather, callous removing products are used which contain a certain amount of chemicals to help dissolve hard skin and make it easier to file away.

The results above are verified as individual votes using the polldaddy online voting system. Cookies & IP addresses were blocked to ensure that only one vote per computer could be counted. We have also searched online tracing links back to our site and can confirm that there was an immense amount of campaigning using twitter, facebook & other social networking sites.

We would like to thank each and every single one of you who entered our competition and we look forward to next month’s entries. We will also be giving our own personal critiques on the different looks from an independent view now that the results are in and our opinions can’t sway the votes.

The winners will be contacted directly to arrange collection of their prizes, but all Lashes can either be picked up from Blush Beauty in Victoria Island or The Bnatural Spa in Ikeja GRA.

All the other entrants are offered free membership to our pro artistry programme & special discounts available only to them off products/courses we offer.

Looking into the Book 3

The most important thing for a makeup artist, aside from their talent and their makeup kit is their portfolio.  It’s your CV and it’s your body of work. It’s your number one means of selling yourself to potential clients.  The same applies to fashion designers.  From the budding new start up entreprenures to the couture fashion houses, their Lookbooks are a vital tool in promoting new collections.

For many new designers, their “Lookbook” is a way of selling their work to buyers at large department stores and can help clinch that vital contract. They are printed to the highest quality and sent out to various places or given out at organised collection viewings. This was the case when new designer Bunmi Koko set about creating their first edition.    Even though the name speaks volumes about her heritage her designs are universal and her couture creations have thrust her into the limelight. She has won several awards and has showcased her work around the world all within a year and a half.  Not many designers can claim to have Michelle Obama as a client!

Mascara – A Girls Best Friend? By Adeola O 1

When I did a survey asking which one beauty item a lady would never do without, the top answer I got seemed a little far fetched -  the mascara.

First, I wondered of its importance, mascara?  Isn’t  it just a thick mass of ink that coats the lashes?  The mascara reveals the best or worst of a woman’s face – it says calm, cool, wild, bold, weird, fierce and even at times carries the whole look.

As I’ve discovered finding the perfect mascara is a more complex task than one might think; having tried various formulas which didn’t quite reveal the basics of a perfect mascara.

Banish those Lumps & Clumps – Mascara Tips by June S Reply

Picking the right mascara can be a confusing task.  All kinds of thoughts run through your mind as you stare at the vast selection of brands and wonderful claims by each brand.  You wonder if your lashes would look better if you picked the thickening mascara.  The truth is, lashes differ from person to person so you will have to decide what you want to achieve.  Well, here’s what you need to know about mascaras in general.

You can tell a lot about a mascara by the shape of the wand. Fat brushes create voluptuous lashes, while skinny brushes will coat each lash perfectly without clumping. Curved wands will help curl lashes.
